We spent Thanksgiving weekend at Massanutten, a mountain resort in Harrisonburg, Virginia. We were in search of rest and relaxation, health and wellness. We usually take a trip to the mountains in the Autumn. It’s an opportunity to exhale, relax, and talk. We have found that communication is the key to a healthy relationship. Daily work and other activities can take up so much of your time that you barely have a chance look at your significant other and say “Hello, how are you?” When we go to the mountains, we take lots of walks. It gives us a chance to clear our heads, and it helps us regain perspective. Sometimes you can get so caught up in the daily grind, that you forget what’s really important in life. During one of our brisk walks, a bright red shrub caught our attention.
We had no idea about the name of the shrub. All we knew is that it was stunning, and perfect for the upcoming holidays! We tweeted about the shrub and @WDCGardener responded with the name of the shrub. Thanks @WDCGardener!
For beginner gardeners, shrubs can be good choices because they usually don’t require much maintenance. Prune shrubs to maintain shape and size. Fertilize shrubs with an organic fertilizer once per year. To learn more about our Health and Wellness strategy, click here.
