Red Roses Full Bloom

It’s mid Spring in the Mid-Atlantic area of the U.S. and our Red Roses are in full bloom! Roses are a very popular shrub because of their beautiful layered blooms! To ensure continuous blooms, fertilize roses in early Spring and Autumn. Use an organic rose fertilizer such as Espoma Rose-tone 6-6-4 Plant Food 20 Pounds – 004251. To learn more about fertilizing roses, click here.

What’s our secret to large red rose blooms? We add Espoma Organic Lightning Lime Fertilizer, 30 lb to the soil around the base of our rose bush. We do this every Spring, preferably in early Spring.

Our rose bush is the centerpiece of our Side Garden. To see all 15 Super Plants in our Side Garden, please see below:

For beginner gardeners, roses can be a bit of a challenge. If the leaves get wet when you water roses, the leaves can be susceptible to fungus. An organic fungicide such as Safer Brand Garden Fungicide Ready to Use 32 Ounces 5450 will help minimize fungus.Black spot is a common fungus that attacks roses. Spray Safer Brand Garden Fungicide Ready to Use 32 Ounces 5450 at the first sign of black spot.
