3 Tips to #Grow #Big #Vinca! #containergardening

It’s a late Summer morning in the Mid-Atlantic area of the U.S. and we are taking an opportunity to admire our Big Magenta and White Vinca flowers! We have 4 – 5 plants in a very large container. We have been experimenting with Vinca for the past few years. Sometimes we plant them in the ground in the hot afternoon sun. Sometimes we plant them in a partly shady area of our garden. Based on this year’s results, we believe we have 3 secrets to growing big, healthy Vinca!

Our 1st tip is to grow Vinca in a container. Some plants prefer containers (as opposed to the ground). For example, we believe Geraniums perform better in containers. The first time we noticed Vinca in a large container was in Williamsburg, Virginia U.S.A.

Our 2nd and most important tip is to keep Vinca in morning sun only, not the hot afternoon sun. When we put Vinca in the hot afternoon sun, the leaves faded and slightly burned.

Our 3rd tip is to lightly fertilize Vinca every few weeks with an organic fertilizer such as Espoma PT4 4-Pound Plant-Tone Organic 5-3-3 Plant Food. It is not necessary because Vinca is a low maintenance plant, however, if you want Big Vinca, then fertilize!
