Our huge Nellie Stevens Holly is ready for the holidays! It’s sporting bright red berries and is standing 18 feet tall and 10 feet wide. We planted the holly about 10 yrs ago and it has grown fast and furious ever since! Hollies are broadleaf evergreens. They maintain their leaves throughout the year, so they provide structure, volume, and color in your landscape. For beginner gardeners, filling your garden with low maintenance perennials that bloom consistently is an investment that will return dividends year after year!

Hollies are very easy to grow and maintain. We don’t prune our hollies unless they are obstructing a pathway our crowding out other shrubs. We give them plenty of room to grow and spread out. We fertilize with a special acidic fertilizer once per year, either in the Spring or Autumn. According to @BobStewart723, “Nellie Robinson Stevens of Maryland, collected the seed that produced her namesake holly from the US Botanic Gardens.” What an interesting piece of gardening history! Thanks @BobStewart723!
