We use a Fiskars Garden Spade Shovel to dig up the irises. We purchased the Fiskars Garden Spade Shovel at Home Depot, which has an excellent Lawn and Garden Center. The Fiskars Garden Spade Shovel has a flat, sharp blade that makes a clean cut through the roots. A clean cut will help the transplanted irises to recover quickly and take root in their new location.
