It’s late Autumn, but the ground is still warm in the Mid-Atlantic area of the U.S. Hence, it’s not to late to dig up weeds so they don’t over-winter in your garden! Once weeds establish their roots deep into the ground, it’s very difficult to get rid of them. However, we have found a tool that digs down deep into the ground and pulls the weed up by it’s root. Naturally, it’s called a de-weeder, and it has a double prong at the end, which grabs the weed by the root. Just use the Fiskars Duraframe Scratch Weeder (370100-1001) to dig down as far as you can, next to the stem of the root. Then begin gradually pulling the weed up by the root. We have a video to demonstrate …
Use the old-fashioned method of using your hands to pull weeds if their roots will come up with the plant. In the video below, we are pulling Morning Glory weeds, and wild strawberry weeds. Both of these weeds will completely consume your garden if you don’t keep them under control! Morning Glory is a beautiful vine, but we must keep it under control.
Bonus Tip for Beginner Gardeners: Weeds compete with your plants for nutrients and water, so be diligent about getting rid of them as soon as they appear!
If you have dandelions, use a hammer to dig up the weed and roots! We love organic solutions! If we used a chemical, it would harm wildlife that we enjoy watching!
