We absolutely love coneflowers such as Purple Coneflower! We purchased Wild Berry Coneflower seeds from Park Seeds during the pandemic. The seeds we sowed in the ground didn’t make it, however the seeds we sowed in containers did germinate. We learned a very valuable lesson about growing coneflowers from seed …
We learned that coneflowers like a cold block, so if you sow the seeds in early Autumn, Winter provides a cold block several weeks later. It gives the seed time to germinate, establish roots and grow before Winter. In Spring, the plant returns and flourishes!
To encourage the plant to grow, we add tiny bits of organic fertilizer (one-half of a teaspoon) and we made sure to apply water when the soil is dry.
This little coneflower is our pride and joy this growing season! Park Seeds sent us 20 seeds and this is the only one that germinated! We are ecstatic that she likes this container and location because she gets about 6 hours of morning sun!
